THOMAS J. CAREY

THOMAS J. CAREY

Thomas J. Carey, renown UFOlogist, was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he attended public schools and played the three major competitive sports of baseball, football and basketball, all with a high degree of excellence. So much so that following his graduation from high school he attended Temple University on an athletic scholarship, graduating in 1967 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.

During four-years in the U.S. Air Force, where he possessed a TOP SECRET clearance, Carey became interested in anthropology and human evolution. After his discharge he attended California State University, Sacramento, receiving a Masters Degree in Anthropology in 1974. He was then granted a fellowship to pursue a Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of Toronto.

Carey's interest in UFO’s began while in high school and was rekindled in 1986 when he became the MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) State Section Director for Southeastern Pennsylvania. He continues to investigate local UFO sightings in that capacity in the Delaware Valley, which encompasses the five-county area surrounding Philadelphia. However, since 1991 his major focus on UFO research has been centered on the so-called Roswell Incident, the alleged retrieval and subsequent cover-up by the U.S. Government of a craft of unknown origin which crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in July, 1947. In this research, Carey has worked closely with Roswell investigators, Kevin Randle and Don Schmitt. He also became a Special Investigator for the J. Allen Hynek CUFOS (Center for UFO Studies) in 1992 and since 1997 has served on its Board of Directors.

Carey’s research has contributed to a number of books on the Roswell Incident such as, The Truth About the UFO Crash at Roswell (1994) by Kevin D. Randle and Donald R. Schmitt. As well, Carey has appeared as a guest on many television and radio shows concerning the Roswell Incident along with several filmed documentaries. He lectures throughout the country and his portrait appears on the "Wall of Fame" at the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell for his outstanding contributions to the understanding of the Roswell Incident.

A large portion of his most successful contributions center around the Roswell Archaeologists, archaeologists that by some accounts mysteriously showed up at the various crash sites and just as mysteriously disappeared. Carey has done intensive research running down if they actually existed, and if so, who they might be and where they are now. His answers range from the potential such as a man named Larry Campbell, a sort of desert gadabout and former Pothunter known as Cactus Jack who is said to have seen the mysterious World War II UFOs called Foo Fighters in real life --- and whose full name has been reported to be William Lawrence Campbell --- to the more formally confirmed William Curry Holden.

Carey’s other interests include playing ice-hockey in the winter time, writing incisive letters-to-the-editor about sports, politics and society in general, listening to oldies records and making home improvements. He has been married to Doreen since 1968 and has two children, Don and Erin. Carey is an Air Force Vietnam-era veteran.
